New Coroners’ Court
The Senior Coroner, Dr. Myra Cullinane, is pleased to announce the formal opening of 2 additional Coroners’ Courts to add to the Coroner’s Court at Store Street.
The two new Coroners’ Courts are situated in the Richmond Education Centre, 1 Brunswick Street North, Smithfield, Dublin 7.
This is a beautifully restored building providing an appropriate environment for grieving families and others attending at the time of an inquest.
Coroners, Dr. Clare Keane and Dr. Cróna Gallagher, will sit in the new Coroners’ Courts at the Richmond Centre while Ms. Aisling Gannon SC will sit in the Store Street Coroners’ Court.
This move will significantly increase the number of inquests that can be held annually and will support the Coroner’s Service in Dublin in continuing to provide independent and compassionate death investigation for families and the community.
1st September 2023.

Dublin District Coroner
Under the Coroners Acts 1962-2020, we are responsible for investigating reportable deaths that occur in the district of Dublin.
All sudden, unexplained, violent and unnatural deaths must by law be reported to a Coroner. No doctor may certify a death which is due directly or indirectly to any unnatural cause. The Coroner’s inquiry is concerned with establishing whether or not the death was due to natural or unnatural causes.
“Show me the manner in which a nation cares for its dead, and I will measure with mathematical exactness the tender mercies of its peoples, their loyalty to high ideals and their regard for the laws of the land.”
